What a holiday today 14

14: Origin of the Honest Trees of the Life-giving Cross of the Lord (Honey Spas)

Initially, the holiday was introduced in Constantinople, where in August various diseases often raged, often leading to death. It is believed that the holiday originated in the IX century, but after 3-4 centuries it was established in the Orthodox churches of the whole world.

The holiday was previously translated as «origin», but such a translation was not entirely correct, and everything ended with the fact that the holiday was called «wear».

On this day, a cross is taken out in the temples, worship rites are performed. In the Russian Church, it is customary to consecrate water before or after the liturgy. Also, according to tradition, honey is consecrated at the same time, and that is why the holiday was named Honey Savior.

On this day, it is customary to eat apples with honey or just honey. Naturally, believers attend church and pray, praising the Lord.

Holiday 14: Memorial Day of Defenders of the Fatherland in Abkhazia

It is 14 in Abkhazia that marks the Day of the Defenders of the Fatherland. On this day, in many cities of the Republic, they lay flowers at the graves and monuments of those soldiers who died in the 1992-1993 Patriotic War of the Abkhaz people.

It is known that on 14 1992 the troops of the State Council of Georgia entered the territory of Abkhazia. At the same time, the Tbilisi government issued a statement that allegedly the introduction of troops was necessary for the protection of the Psou-Ingur section, where the railway was located.

For its part, the actions of the State Council of Georgia were considered by Abkhazia as a “prepared occupation of the territory of sovereign Abkhazia”.

As a result, an armed conflict began, which gradually turned into a real war between Georgians and Abkhazians. In total, the fighting lasted 413 days, culminating in the defeat of the Georgian troops. In the conflict itself took part over 12 thousand people, and the victims were more than 2,700 soldiers who died in battle.

More than 5,000 people were injured of varying degrees of difficulty.

Holiday 14: Portuguese bullfighting birthday

Every year in Abioul are celebrations dedicated to the Day of Portuguese bullfighting. And the most important thing in it is to demonstrate all the traditions of fighting with the bulls, known since ancient times.

Bullfighting is not an ordinary competition, but a bizarre combination of art and sports, skill and entertainment, religious rites and a bright show, in which only brave souls take part.

Usually, a caballero starts a fight, arriving on horseback, and foot soldiers enter the battle with a bull when he is already wounded by a farce — a special lance with a sharp hook at the end, which is usually stuck in a fat bag on the withers of the bull. This can be compared with a shot for a person, therefore, there is no danger to the life of the animal in this case.

After this, foot soldiers (furkadush) begin a battle.

It is worth saying that there are clear rules for participants in bullfighting. So, boys aged from 10 to 14 years can fight with young bulls.

Next comes the adolescent group with boys between 14 and 18, and adult men from 18 to 35 fall into the last, oldest category.

Although it must be said that there are cases when the furkadushas were people who have already crossed the milestone of 40-45 years. As for the bulls, their weight is 500-600 kilograms.

Before the fight, special leather covers are put on their horns, which allow you to soften the blows.
